COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

About the job

The Communications Coordinator (contract) works in concert with the volunteer board of Equality South Dakota to educate, inspire, and activate members and supporters through a variety of digital and earned media.

Responsibilities and Duties 

The chief objective of the Communications Coordinator is to promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of Equality South Dakota (c4) and Equality South Dakota Institute (c3). 

 

To achieve this objective, the communications coordinator shall:

  • promote Equality South Dakota to constituents in South Dakota, the region, and nationally; create original content and collaborate with coalition partners

  • create social media campaigns using platforms which the organization maintains 

  • post regular website updates such as blogs and press releases 

  • draft and post emails to supporters

  • provide scripts or sample language to board members on fundraising and interacting with donors

  • attend events such as Pride Festivals or LGBTQ+ Visibility Day at the Capitol.

Qualifications 

This position will have a high degree of independence and decision making capacity. With that, we are looking for someone who is well-versed in social media marketing, digital advocacy, basic video editing, and graphic design. At least 1 year of experience is preferred, can be a combination of paid or volunteer experience.

Compensation

This can range based on experience, but starts at $15 per hour. Payment will be done so electronically or by ACH payment. This position will function as a consultant or contact type employment. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for covering their own income taxes and FICA payments. The Communication Coordinator will provide their own computer and phone service. If tech is needed that can be discussed with the hiring committee. 

 

Hours

Around 10 hours per week will be the average throughout the year with extended hours during South Dakota's legislative session which runs January through March. Additional hours may be available during June, which is South Dakota's Pride Month.

Reimbursements

Equality South Dakota will reimburse for necessary travel expenses provided the travel is approved by the Chair prior to expenses being incurred. Equality South Dakota will also cover necessary office supplies.
